‘RAIN DOWN MY WINDOW PANE’
This complex rock/pop anthem was originally written and demoed by Paul in 2018. It could just as easily have been written for now, as its subject matter centres on war, the effect on those sent to fight it and those caught in the crossfire, and whether the end ever justifies the means.
‘Rain Down My Window Pane’ portrays scenes of destruction in far away lands while referencing the pointless loss of innocent life and the terror endured by civilians as it poses the question: “How can we look into their eyes and say the cause is worth the fight?” It also reflects on returning service men and women asking if they’ll ever be the same again, as we glorify war leaders with medals for their ‘victory’ without facing battles on the frontline.
‘Rain Down My Window Pane’ is evocative and thought provoking, and a sad truth that some five years after it was first penned, nothing has changed!
Joining Paul on guitars, vocals and bass, are the incredible Jonathan Wills on drums, percussion and production and Becca Toft on trumpet. Strings were arranged by Charlie Fowler with mastering by Marco Meniconi.

’BLANK CANVAS’
Blank Canvas’ is a punchy pop/rock track that features the brass delights of Jacko Peake (Saxophone) and Becca Toft (Trumpet), and the beating groove of drummer Jonathan Wills. Paul plays all other instruments and sings all vocals.
Originally written and recorded as a demo by Paul in just a couple of hours, its title was drawn from the fact that one Saturday morning he sat down with nothing in mind other than plugging in a guitar and seeing what happened! As a result, the lyrics are centred around the topic of demoing and writing songs in the moment, and in the hope that inspiration will find its way in somehow and a song will take shape. It also deals with the difficulty of getting music to reach an audience in a world of digital steams and downloads.
The result is an energetic track that’s fast and fun with topical substance. The cover artwork features Paul’s 1986 Rickenbacker 330 Fire-Glo which was used in the final recording.

Released on all digital streaming and downloading platforms on 10th September, the inimitable Jacko Peake (Paul Weller/The Style Council/Groove Nation) contributes stunning brass on both tracks. ‘Sole Survivor’ hits a 70’s inspired soul groove while ‘Don’t Count On Me’ strikes a Northern Soul vibe that’s reminiscent of classic 60’s hits with a modern edge.
With renowned drummer Jonathan Wills (Super db band) adding spectacular drums and percussion, and co-producing these tracks to an incredible standard, vocalist Lyndsey Wills adds soulful backing vocals to elevate both tracks while perfectly complementing Paul’s vocal style.
Mastered by Marco Meniconi, ‘Sole Survivor’ and ‘Don’t Count On Me’ reference the many musical styles that have influenced Paul over 5 decades to produce a markedly different direction from his previous solo releases.

Written, recorded and performed by Paul, this track came together really quickly with all parts and vocals taken from the original demo, to give it a live and spontaneous feel.
Featuring The Alarm’s Steve ‘Smiley’ Barnard on drums, who on hearing the track felt it deserved the ‘Moon treatment’, this track is reminiscent of The Who with other influences seeping in unconsciously to give it a retrospective yet contemporary vibe.

This is Paul’s first solo single featuring Ben Gordelier (Drummer with Paul Weller and The Moons) on drums and percussion, and Charlie Fowler on Hammond Organ and production duties.
RELEASES & DEMOS
After co-writing a 5-track EP with Eddie Macdonald, original and founding member of ‘The Alarm’ in 2016, Paul set about writing and recording solo material in 2017. Since then, he has amassed a catalogue of around 50 demos that have never been recorded or produced for official release. In May 2021 Paul teamed up with friend, former bandmate and producer Charlie Fowler to refine his original demos and re-record parts to get the songs to release quality. Following the single ‘Faith’, a 4-track EP entitled ‘Sound Bites’ was released in April 2022. With all tracks written by Paul, he also played all instruments and sang all vocals with invaluable contributions from acclaimed drummer and percussionist Ben Gordelier, Katya Fowler on backing vocals (Real Deal) and Charlie Fowler on backing vocals (Real Deal), additional keys (Faith) and synths (Real Deal). Charlie also produced the EP.
